OO 2024-03 BODS Working Group Social (1)

What?

Open Ownership holds virtual group meetings of its Data Standard Working Group Community quarterly. The group comprises data experts, beneficial ownership specialists and other interested parties who provide advice and help guide the development of Open Ownership’s Beneficial Ownership Data Standard (BODS).

In the coming months, Open Ownership and Open Data Services will be finalising work on version 0.4 of BODS. It will then be translated into Spanish, Russian and - for the first time - French, before a full release.

Read our 2022 blog post to learn about the key forthcoming features in version 0.4, check out our latest presentation or visit our public release tracker on Github.

Why does BODS matter?

BODS is the leading global open standard providing guidance for collecting, sharing and using high-quality data on beneficial ownership.

Anonymously-owned companies facilitate corruption, including transnational illicit financial flows. This challenge requires a transnational solution where a range of stakeholders have access to standardised data from across the world that can be easily linked to better prevent, detect, and combat systemic corruption. Connecting BO data transnationally with other BO and relevant datasets would mean that it can be more easily used by a range of anti-corruption actors to better prevent, detect, and combat corruption. Interoperable data, for example data structured according to BODS, could make this a reality.
