Describing interests: Research note

Summary

In this research note, we set out to understand the full range of ways in which current legislation and beneficial ownership disclosure forms categorise the relationship between a beneficial owner and a legal vehicle (interests).

We reviewed the legislation and disclosure forms (where possible) from the British Virgin Islands, Canada, Colombia, Ghana, the Philippines, Portugal, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Zambia. We also looked at disclosure requirements for Chile’s Procurement Register, the European Union Anti-Money Laundering Regulations, the Financial Action Task Force Recommendations and supporting Guidance for legal entities and arrangements, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Common Reporting Standard.
